Please join us for our 11th annual White Truffle Dinners at Delfina. Our daily changing a la carte menu will feature dishes that are especially suited for white truffles. Expect to see some favorite items from past years as well as some new items the kitchen is cooking up.
Here's a peek: Kuri Squash Sformatino with Fonduta and Chestnuts, Carne Cruda with Truffled Celery Root, Hand-cut Tajarin in bianco, Risotto al Barolo with Radicchio and Bone Marrow, and Veal Arista with Black Trumpet Mushrooms.
To compliment these gems, we will be breaking out some fantastic Piemontese wines that we have been "garaging" for these dinners. We will be offering an extended list of Barolo and Barbaresco from a range of storied vintners, vineyards, and vintages. We will also be offering flights of Nebbiolo by the glass so you can experience the range of this fantastic grape.
Winemaker, Cecilia Naldoni Piccin of Grifalco della Lucania Visits Delfina!
Monday, November 8, 2010

Basilicata is the instep of the Italian boot. This hilly and mountainous region is located in the southwest corner of Italy on the Ionian Sea. Parts of Basilicata have been settled since the Stone Age, and over the years has been conquered by the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, and Normans. The region is rich in barley, citrus, olives, tomatoes, and wine- although until recently little of their wine production was seen outside of Italy.
Fabrizio Piccin and Cecilia Naldoni of the Grifalco winery came to Basilicata from Montepulciano, where they had been making Vino Nobile since 1974. "Basilicata was a beautiful unknown territory," Piccin said. The couple first made tiny experimental amounts of wine, finding "incredible potential" in the volcanic slopes of the area. They bought land, and with the 2004 vintage they began to sell wine. Grifalco raises only Aglianico, 16 hectares of it in four locations: around the brand-new winery near Venosa, and in Ginestra, Rapolla, and Maschito.
On Monday, November 8th, we will be featuring two of her wines, AGLIANICO DEL VULTURE D.O.C. "GRIFALCO", and AGLIANICO DEL VULTURE D.O.C. "GRICOS", both awarded 2 glasses from Gambero Rosso. We will also offer our a la carte menu which will feature a few dishes inspired from the region of Basilicata.

Delfina Celebrates the Wine and Food of Fruili
Friday, May 15 - the ever charming Aleš Kristan of Movia Winery
Tuesday, May 19th - Valter Scarbolo of Scarbolo Winery and Joseph Bastianich of Bastianich Winery

Each night, the winemakers will be on hand to discuss and pour their latest vintages. Our daily-changing ala carte menu will feature Friulian-inspired dishes such as: Poppyseed Gnocchi with Spec, Peas and Morels ♦ Asparagus, Potato and Montasio ♦ Frico Mixed Grill with Polenta and Housemade Sauerkraut ♦ Strawberry Schnitten with Lime Syrup.
The northeastern region of Friuli is home to some of Italy's best wines. Mountains, dramatic rolling hills, and the Adriatic Sea all contribute to the unique nature of Friuli’s renowned white and elegant reds. Local winemakers are passionate about grapes indigenous to the area- including Friulano and Refosco- as well as international varietals like Sauvignon and Pinot Noir that grow so exquisitely in their soil. These wines perfectly compliment the rich and diverse cuisine of Friuli, which is shaped by influences from bordering Austria and Slovenia while remaining inherently Italian.
Friday, May 15 - Movia's Aleš Kristan

The Kristancic family has
been tending vines at the Movia estate since 1820. Over the
years, the nationality of their land
has changed several times as geo-political borders were
drawn and re-drawn, presently leaving half of their vineyards in Italy and half in Slovenia. The traditions that withstood the centuries
of upheaval and the pioneering spirit that resulted from them have come to
define the wines of Movia. Aleš
has been at the helm of this dynamic winery for nearly two decades, and has
made it famous for bio-dynamically producing wines of purity, depth, and
ridiculous longevity. Aleš himself is a
force of nature; full of knowledge, full of energy, and fully dedicated to
creating experiences that are as fantastic as his wines. On Friday, May 15th come sample Delfina’s resident Movia
selections, the Puro sparkling wines and gorgeous “Veliko Bianco” blend, as
well as the rest of what Movia has to offer, then settle in and witness the
whirlwind.
Tuesday, May 19 - Joe Bastianich and Valter Scarbolo

Joe Bastianich and Valter Scarbolo have much in common. They both run outstanding small-production, family-operated wineries, and are successful restaurateurs; Joe has partnered with his mother Lidia Bastianich and chef Mario Batali to create several benchmark restaurants in New York City and Los Angeles, Valter runs the quintessential osteria “La Frasca” near Udine in Friuli. These two friends will also both be at Delfina on Tuesday, May 19th with the latest vintages of their wines, including staff favorites Bastianich “Vespa Rosso” (a luscious blend of Refosco, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot) and Scarbolo’s exceptional Sauvignon. On their own, Joe and Valter are charismatic hosts with the most welcoming sense of hospitality. Together, they’ve had the habit of creating the kind of evening one remembers for a lifetime - you don't want to miss this one.
Delfina Celebrates the Food and Wine of the Marche with Guest Winemaker Luciano Landi
Tuesday, April 14th

For centuries the Marche has had a rich history of viticulture, enjoying a climate that benefits from both
coastal and mountain influences. From vineyards facing the
Adriatic Sea, the Landi family has been
growing grapes since the 1950's, and continues to bring both tradition and innovation to their life-long
passion of winemaking. Focusing on unique grapes indigenous to the area, Luciano Landi produces
wines that define the concept of terroir.
On Tuesday, April 14th, Delfina will be showcasing our love for the Marche region! We will have special guest Luciano pouring the latest vintages of his wines including the stunning Lacrima di Morro d'Alba "Gavigliano," along with other fantastic blends and Delfina's longtime favorite, the Lacrima Passitio dessert wine.
To accompany these wines our a la carte menu will feature dishes inspired from the Marche, which has a cuisine rich in food from both the sea and the land. The menu may include: Brodetto di Pesce (with 11 different kinds of seafood!), Fregnacce with Louisiana White Shrimp, Lasagna Vincigrassi, and Rabbit in Pottacchio.

Delfina Celebrates the Food and Wine of Campania with Guest Winemaker Bruno De Conciliis
Wednesday, March 11th

De Conciliis is a pioneering winery making waves in the southern Italian region of Campania. It is located just south of the famous Amalfi coast in the relatively uncharted Cilento zone, Italy's second largest national park. Amidst arid, hard-to-till land, De Conciliis is producing full-bodied, fruit driven Fianos and Aglianicos that are
as complex and elegant as they are approachable. Highly sought after on both sides
of the Atlantic, their wines have reached cult status in the States and received Italy’s prestigious Tre Bicchieri award.
Bruno De Conciliis is the dedicated winemaker at the helm of this acclaimed winery. For years his wines have been featured at both Delfina and Pizzeria Delfina, and we are excited to welcome him here to share with us a selection of his latest vintages.
To provide a perfect match to these bright and fresh wines, the evening's a la carte menu will include dishes inspired from the flavorful cuisine of Campania.
